David Sharp

Managing Director

BSc (Hons) MRICS, NECReg

David is a Chartered Building Surveyor and one of the founding Directors of Actua. He is an Accredited NEC ECC Supervisor and has gained extensive experience during his career working in the both the private and public sectors on a wide range of projects.

His varied experience covers various clients and sectors and has enabled David to gain a broad spectrum of skills and expertise ensuring that he remains versatile to the needs of a range of clients and design teams. David has significant expertise in construction monitoring, procurement, design and project management.

He particularly enjoys working with higher education and healthcare sector clients finding new methods to innovate and offer best-value solutions and construction practices on large complex projects.

Nicola Foulkes

Office Manager

Nicola is an experienced Administrator and manages business communications and activity in our head office located in Liverpool city centre.

She has experience in a number of sectors including legal services and residential property and as Office Manager is integral to the business and the central point of contact within the organisation for all individuals. She works to implement and streamline business practices in conjunction with senior management, to achieve working efficiencies and facilitate the professional team in delivering on their instructions.

Nicola is responsible for Accreditation, Business Systems and Compliance to ensure the company is suitably structured to meet the pre-qualification and regulatory requirements of the modern construction and property industries.

Luke Cousins

Building Surveyor

BSc (Hons)

Luke is an experienced Building Surveyor with a range of professional experience in both the private and public sectors.

He has acted as Building Surveyor and Contract Administrator on a range of projects including refurbishment projects in schools, courthouses and health centres and is also experienced in undertaking statutory inspections in the housing sector.

Luke is also experienced in undertaking asset capture and condition assessment commissions and has acted as project lead on building condition assessments, planned preventative maintenance assessments and latent defect assessments and reporting.  He also has experience of undertaking fire integrity and building component suitability assessments in the healthcare sector.

An enthusiastic and dedicated Construction Site Inspector. He is versatile and easily relates to a wide range of stakeholders including the general public, clients, consultants, and contractors.

He displays a highly conscientious and detailed approach to interrogating the required standards and acceptable quality and accuracy of work and materials when supervising on site. A highly focussed and committed professional, he has gained in-depth practical experience and knowledge within the construction and highways industry as a result of a diverse involvement on projects.

Sam Stirling

Sam Stirling

Project Manager & Building Surveyor

Sam is a Project Manager, Building Surveyor and accredited NEC4 Supervisor with experience working across numerous construction sites. Sam has worked with senior colleagues on various projects gaining a practicable knowledge of the industry, including assisting with the project management of several new residential high-rise apartments throughout the City of Liverpool and various projects for Healthcare Clients.

Prior to starting with ACTUA, Sam completed his BSc (Hons) Building Surveyor Degree at Liverpool John Moores University. Alongside completing his degree, Sam worked at site level throughout various sectors including commercial and education, allowing him to gain invaluable improved knowledge of site safety and an understanding of working to mitigate risks.

Sam is an enthusiastic and ambitious member of our team with hopes of further progressing his qualifications by attaining the status of “Chartered Surveyor” by completing his Assessment of Professional Competence in the future.

Thomas Reilly

Building Surveyor

Thomas is a qualified Building Surveyor at Actua with a postgraduate degree from LJMU.

He has significant experience in the retail sector, having previously worked in-house as a Building Surveyor for Iceland, where he was responsible for managing the maintenance and surveying requirements of a large and varied property portfolio across the UK. This role provided Thomas with valuable hands-on experience in fast-paced, operational environments, balancing the need for robust technical solutions with the practicalities of live retail operations.

At Actua, Thomas delivers condition surveys, defect diagnosis, and advises on maintenance, repair, and refurbishment strategies. He combines strong technical expertise in building pathology with a clear and practical communication style, enabling clients to make informed decisions about the performance and longevity of their assets.

Thomas brings a methodical, detail-driven approach to his work, underpinned by a client-focused mindset. His blend of in-house retail experience and consultancy practice ensures he can provide pragmatic, commercially aware advice while maintaining the highest professional standards on all commissions.

Mya Andrews

Graduate Building Surveyor

Mya is a Graduate Building Surveyor at Actua and is completing her MSc in Commercial Building Surveying at Liverpool John Moores University.

She has already gained valuable experience assisting with RAAC inspections at Aintree Hospital, supporting senior surveyors in identifying and reporting structural risks as part of a wider NHS estates management programme.

Her academic background combines a BA in Geography from the University of Liverpool with postgraduate study in Building Surveying, giving her strong analytical, research, and presentation skills as well as a broad understanding of the built environment and regeneration.

Mya is an active member of the RICS Matrics Lancashire Committee, where she contributes to industry events and networking. She is developing a strong foundation in building defect analysis and survey reporting and is committed to delivering clear, high-quality outputs for clients.
